Weight Watchers Magazine

I may not follow the whole program but I really do like their magazine. I had posted some ideas from their magazine for my weight loss buddies. I wanted to paste it here also.

It talks about making better choices...

Choose frozen concentrate for orange juice. It has 25% more vitamin C. Since Vitamin C breaks down over time, freezing OJ in concentrate form slows the process and preserves it until the concentrate is mixed with water. I also figured it out once I think concentrate is slightly cheaper and only takes a few extra minutes to mix up.

Pick prunes over plums. Filled with fiber, A, B, Iron and calcium, prunes contain more antioxidants than fresh plums or any other fruit.

Get your milk in cardboard containers. Milk stored in transparent plastic jugs or glass can loose up to 70% riboflavin, vitamins A & C. Exposure to light causes chemical reactions that lead to deterioration.

Pick wild salmon, it has less fat and 2-3x's as many heart healthy omega 3 fatty acids. It also has fewer contaminates.

Tomato paste contains up to 4 times more lycopene than its regular counterparts.

Sauerkraut is better than raw cabbage. The fermentation process produces isothiocyanates, known cancer inhibitors. Also loaded with vitamins.

Opt for olive oil over butter. Its been linked to reducing the risk of coronary heart disease and breast cancer.

Not all apples are created equal. Red apples contain the most quercetin, an antioxidant that helps ward off cancer and Alzheimers. Don't peel your apple, the quercetin is concentrated in the skin.
